Problem Solving Activities for Teams

Working together as a team can be a frustrating endeavor. If every day went by without some problem to solve, your job would become too boring to endure, wouldn’t it? Unfortunately, not all people go about solving problems in the same way and if you have any hopes of building a team that functions as a cohesive whole, it pays to learn more about how each person goes about solving problems they encounter. One of the best ways to get to know how other members of your team view and solve problems is to have some good, old fashioned fun with problem solving activities for teams. Here are a few you might like to try.

A New Slant on Murder Mystery Parties

For as long as anyone can remember, people were invited to a murder mystery dinner in which the host set out an elaborate murder mystery for the guests to solve. Today, there are escape rooms all around the country that do this very thing.

Participants have an hour to solve a mystery, usually a murder mystery, and it takes all the players working together to solve the mystery. For teams in and around Indianapolis, an escape room Indianapolis can offer loads of fun while helping team members to learn to work together.

Learn to Adapt with the Shrinking Rope Game

This is one which you may never have heard of but it will be one that gives you a new perspective on the importance of being open to adaptability. The only thing you’ll need is a room, a rope and the members of your team. The game starts by making a circle on the floor with the rope that will just fit all the members of your team.

Slowly over the next ten to fifteen minutes begin shrinking the rope. The object is to find creative ways to keep all members within the shape, even though it keeps getting smaller and smaller. If this doesn’t teach you to adapt to doing more with less, nothing will!

Building Better Communication Skills

We are living in an age of technology where many members of our teams work from, or travel to, remote locations. Flexible work arrangements help to cut operating costs at most companies and allows workers the flexibility to often set their own pace and their own hours. However, not being in the same office from 9 to 5 doesn’t give us the connection we need to learn to communicate well and this could be a real roadblock to performance. This game only needs an office.

The game starts by instructing the team that all exits (doors, windows, etc.) have been blocked and they have only one-half hour to find ten things which will help them survive. Each member chooses and then the team votes on which ten they will collectively choose. Learning why others do something goes a long way towards better communication and if you find that this is a problem with your team, this is the game for you.

Problem Solving Can Be Fun If You Let It!

What this all boils down to is the fact that life is always going to be riddled with problems to solve and roadblocks on your way to success. While you may not have all the answers, others may see what you are missing and by learning to work together, there isn’t much you can’t conquer.
