A minimum of what your university offers should include smooth administration processes, sufficient health and safety processes, and proficient supervision from your lecturers. Without this, they may be committing a breach of university contract.

University can be the most rewarding and exciting time of your life, where you might find the city you choose to settle in, or friends for life. Likewise, though, you should also be committed to your studies in a way that puts you in the best position for success. To make the most of it all, read on for our nine top tips for making the most out of your marketing course…

1. Plan And Prepare

Organization is key when getting ahead with your marketing course. Making a plan for what work you are going to complete, and when and how important each piece of work is, whilst fitting in the rest of your university life will mean you are able to prioritize your time and make time for fun things too. You’ll then be able to identify when you are most productive and schedule more of your important pieces of work for these times.

It is also important to create deadlines for longer term projects so you can stay on target and get everything done in enough time. This way, you won’t have to complete any all-nighters – unless that’s when you’re most productive!

Don’t forget to take regular short breaks to stay refreshed, though. It is recommended that you have a 10-minute break after every 45 minutes of study, and these should be scheduled in too. Try to stay off your phone and laptop during these times so you have some screen-free time too.

2. Don’t Leave Things Until the Last Minute

If you are setting a schedule and planning out your time, you shouldn’t have any left until the last minute! Try not to leave an essay, assignment, or exam prep until the day before; you might manage to get a good mark, but this won’t be sustainable!

To make the most of your course, it’s important to get work done as you go, or at least review the notes from each lecture the same day you do it to make sure you understand. You can then find further reading on the subject or ask your lecturer for clarification if you don’t understand.

If leaving things until the last minute is something you are guilty of, try these tips to stay on top of things.

3. Attend Your Lectures

We know, you really don’t want to attend that 9 am lecture the day after sports night. But university isn’t cheap, and you need to attend everything to make the most out of it.

Whether it’s a lecture, seminar, revision session or presentation, there will be some benefit to your degree and succeeding in your course. Therefore, it’s important to attend everything! If you are ill or cannot attend, make sure you access the notes from a friend or get in direct contact with your lecturer.

There’s plenty of fun to be had at university and denying yourself a good time isn’t the answer. But don’t fall behind in your course because you are having too much of a good time.

4. Look For Holiday Internships

It’s important to be thinking ahead about your career after your marketing course. Your degree will be a great achievement, but it will only get you so far. So, it’s important to find other ways to develop your achievements and help you stand out from the crowd.

If internships aren’t available, studying abroad is another great way to develop skills and knowledge.

5. Get To Know Your Lecturers

It’s a great idea to get to know your lecturers. The more comfortable you feel with them, the more likely that you will feel you are able to approach them with any questions or issues.

There are lots of other places that you can also get help and support from at university, including student mentors, mental health professionals, and your personal tutor. Don’t forget, your lecturers are there to guide students in the learning process and they want to help students succeed.

If you are feeling overwhelmed with your studies, make sure to speak to staff at your university who will be more than happy to help you out. You could also practice some of these self-care tips to relieve stress and give your mind a rest from work.

6. Think Critically

Being critical is key to doing well in your marketing course. It will help you to think outside the box when completing your assignments and ensure you are thinking of all possibilities.

7. Get Referencing Right

Referencing is one thing that doesn’t come naturally to many students, but you need to ensure you are getting it right for your assignments. This helps to reduce the chances of being penalized for plagiarism and will help to show you have read around a subject. Each university will have its own referencing process, but this article has some top tips and things to look out for when referencing.

8. Break Big Essays Down into Smaller Sections

Things might seem unmanageable when you look at everything you need to get done at once. It’s therefore important to divide your work into chunks, rewarding yourself when you finish each chunk. This will help to make studying seem more fun and will motivate you to get through it.

It will also be easier to complete an assignment or revise for an exam if you have lots of little bits to study.

9. Create A Productive Study Environment

Your surroundings affect your ability to relax, focus, and motivate yourself, so make sure you have a study environment with few distractions that makes you feel calm and happy. Your study space should be clean, have good lighting, and contain all the equipment and stationery you need to get things done.

Try not to be one of those students who spends hours setting up their study space with snacks and coffee and doesn’t actually get any work done, though. What’s more, if you are getting tired of your environment, take a short breather so you can come back and refocus or try somewhere new.
