5 Signs It’s Time For A New Career

People tend to have a hard time finding the perfect career these days. This is because many people believe they must pick one career and stick with that career throughout the rest of their lifetime.

The fact is, it isn’t uncommon to have a handful or more of careers under your belt. You’re going to grow and develop as a person, and that usually means wanting to switch things up and do something else for a while. A person rarely just falls into their dream career. It usually takes a couple of tries, assessing what they like and don’t like, and really honing in on their skills and talents before they find something that brings them that ‘eureka!’ moment.  Is it time for you to switch careers?

You Struggle to Get Out of Bed

Struggling to get out of bed isn’t uncommon for people who don’t love their job, but it shouldn’t be accepted as the norm. This shows that there is likely a lack of purpose and passion for your work, and you should be passionate about something you’re going to be doing for a long time. You may also find that you don’t have the energy to do the things you used to love doing anymore, either. This is a sign you really need to find something else.

You’re Bored at Work

Maybe you’re bored at work. It isn’t challenging you anymore – or perhaps it is, so you procrastinate because it’s a little too challenging. Not being able to focus or get anything done can easily be a problem with you, but they can also be signs that you need to find something that you actually want to do.

You’ve Already Looked at Steps You Can Take Next

Are you already dreaming of leaving/retiring? Perhaps you’ve already looked at the steps that you can take next? Try to map out a plan and see if you can come up with something. It might mean putting some money into savings so that you can survive if you earn less in your new role. It might even mean going back into education and doing a civil engineering technology degree. Be prepared to work your way up to the top again. It’ll be worth it in the end.

Your Professional Growth Is Stunted

Perhaps you feel your professional growth is stunted, your job has been the same for a while and you’re just not going anywhere. A sign you need to move on.

Your Brain Is Chronically Stressed

Work can be stressful sometimes, but stress should not be constantly plaguing you. If you have a busy brain on a loop, this is a sign you need to take a time out and think about your options. You may even notice signs of burn out in your body, such as aches and pains. It’s important to prevent burn out, rather than just take a break when you get it!
